Mónica de Miranda is an artist, educator and producer. She is currently developing an artistic project in Comparative Studies Center, as a researcher. She was recently selected for the NOVO BANCO Photo 2016, the most important contemporary art prize held in Portugal.
Mónica de Miranda took a bachelor degree at Camberwell College of Arts (London, 1998). A master's degree in Art Education and the Institute of Education (London, 2000) and PhD at Middlesex University (London, 2014). Also won a scholarship from the Foundation for Science and Technology. She is one of the founders of the artistic project Network residences Triangle Network in Portugal and the project Hangar, where she is the artistic director. Coordinated the artistic residencies: "Offline" (2013), "Transiting" (2012) and "Home and Abroad" (2010).
From a various number of solo exhibitions, we mention: "Archipelago" (Gallery Carlos Carvalho, Lisbon, 2014), "Erosion" (Appleton Square, Lisbon, 2013), "An Ocean Between Us" (Revolver Platform, Lisbon, 2012), "Novas Geografias"(198 Gallery London / Handgun Platform, Lisbon / Image HF Amsterdam 2008). She received a scholorship from the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation for the project Hotel Globo (2014), from DGArtes for the project "underconstruction" (2009) and the Camões Institute for the project "Novas Geografias" (2008).
Participated in several artistic residencies, such as: Artchipelago (French Institute, Mauritius, 2014), Hotel Tropico (Luanda, 2012), Out (Helmet, Rio de Janeiro, 2011), Erosion (Zero Point Gallery, Mindelo, 2011), Verbal Eyes (Tate Britain, 2009), Muyehlekete (National Museum of Art, Maputo, 2008), Living Together (British Council / inIVA, Georgia / London 2008).
